The most interesting things I've seen in blockchain, tech, and our decentralizing world as seen from the world's border with China.

Hiya all! Historical weekend here as leaders of the two Chinas met for the first time since the 1940s and spent much of their time talking about how these two Chinas should really be one China. Now on to our regularly scheduled newsletter…

Potentially increasing these costs by 8 times as Bitcoin XT could do in its first year would put running a full node in a proper data center out of the range many non-venture funded startups.
I’m looking forward to the ScalingBitcoin conference in December and hope that Mike Hearn will change his mind and attend. If not for the beautiful city, the conference and Leonhard Weese’s tour and dim sum but for the dumplings I will offer to treat him to if he makes the trip.

Week in review
I was the guest on this week’s ATV Newsline, a current events show on TV here in Hong Kong. I haven’t seen the interview yet since the Youtube version doesn’t come out until tomorrow, but Vicky Wong posted an incredibly flattering picture of me on her TV screen with my eyes closed on Twitter.
I discussed Hong Kong’s Innovation and Technology Bureau (ITB), on device censorship, privacy and blockchain. The episode was recorded on Thursday, a day before the Hong Kong’s new Innovation and Technology Bureau was passed by the Legislative Council.
Government is, of course, in a horrible position to determine which new businesses and ideas will be winners and losers in the global market place. I suspect the new ITB will be as effective as the government’s previous efforts: Cyberport, HK Science and Technology Park, InvestHK, Startmeup, etc – at turning Hong Kong into a tech hub. That is to say it will be totally ineffective. I hope I am wrong and wish them the best of luck.
Upcoming events
I’ll be talking about Blockstack, blockstore and Blockchain ID at our rescheduled technical talk on November 18th. More info here.
