China
I’ve spent the last week or so back in Mainland China…my longest stint in a couple years…even I was surprised at how cut off the Chinese internet has become from the rest of the world. It used to be that you had to turn on your VPN to access certain websites, but now the censorship has gotten to the point where a computer or phone normally configured for use outside of the country is essentially useless for any network related activity.
2015 marked the year we started to see China’s decade plus internet control and censorship regime start to leak out into the rest of the world. The last week of the year was no exception.
